ARTIST STATEMENT

Since the beginning of 2015 I have worked mainly in paint and the subject of my work has been landscapes. Prior to this I had never painted landscapes but as soon as I started I fell in love with the subject. I find the landscape of the Highlands and Glens of Scotland wonderfully inspiring.

Many of the scenes I have painted focus on areas high up in the mountains where there is no trace of human touch. Everything – textures, colour, elements – are natural, pure. My work seeks to convey natural beauty in its purest form.

Recently, I have focused more on a pop-art style of landscape painting. Pop art is something I have admired since I was a child and this was heightened when I visited a David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy and, slightly more recently, a Roy Lichtenstein retrospective at Tate Modern. I now live in the city where one of the early contributors to the pop art movement – Eduardo Paolozzi – lived.
