Into the Glens

This series of contemporary landscape paintings began not long before I went to start my MSc last year and I’ve continued it up until now concurrently with another series of snow scene paintings I started early this year. The paintings below show only a sample of the paintings I have done in this style. Inspiration for this series comes, as ever, from the Scottish landscape – particularly Glenshee. Journeying into the Scottish Glens is something I always enjoy and makes me want to paint. I like the undulating land form combined with the seasonally-changing colours and patterns of the landscape.

Style

The style of painting draws upon elements from both cubism and pop art. I start of with sketches in fine liner pen and then when I am back in the studio, I start creating looser, abstract, shapes of the views which I then paint in bold, vibrant, and colourful paints.
